About
Heaviside’s Dinner is dedicated to my late brother Rik.
He faced setbacks for four lives, coped with the burden of eight, and was granted only half a life.
Why this name
The website takes its name from Oliver Heaviside, whose work shaped modern circuit theory and introduced the operators rot, grad and div that simplify Maxwell’s equations.
His attitude toward mathematics is close to the spirit of this site: mathematics should also be observed, described and experimented with, not only formalized.
I hold the view that it is essentially an experimental science, like any other, and should be taught observationally, descriptively, and experimentally.
